Veggie Pride Parade - New York CIty

A rainy Sunday did not stop some of New York's most die-hard vegans and vegetarians for a parade from the Meat Packing District to a rally site in Washington Square Park. It was Veggie Pride Day in the city, after all.

Organized by the VivaVegie Society, a New York based vegan advocacy group, the day started with the parade. Once they made it to the park, the rally consisted of tables set up by a number of other regional vegetarian advocacy and animal rights groups. Exhibitors included the American Vegan Society, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA to most of you), VegNews, and the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary.

I missed the parade due to a quite typical Sunday morning display of sloth. We did go in search of the parade, only to find out that the rally was well underway in the park. Thankfully, the rally was fun, with both a quick wedding ceremony between VivaVegie's Penelo Pea Pod and PETA's Chris P. Carrot, and a Vegan Rock performance by the Cheryl Hill Band.

I was not able to get a picture of the ceremony, so you will just have to accept a picture of me with the blushing bride.
